Bees for sale

In our apiaries we use Buckfast bees. We like them for all their qualities such as very prolific queens, low swarm instinct, gentleness and a high resistance to diseases. They overwinters extremely well, using less honey stores. Great honey producers, builds up rapidly in the spring while maintaining a strong colony during the entire summer. Our Buckfast bees are very gentle allowing the beekeeper to work with minimal use of smoke and in bad weather.

FAQ

HONEY QUESTIONS

Below are the most popular questions from our clients.

  • Health benefits of honey

To eat or not to eat?
Honey is known for its healing and nutritional properties. More than 400 different components are found in honey. However, only honey that has not been processed retains its beneficial properties. It is believed that Pure honey helps to reduce the symptoms of hay fever, to normalize metabolism and strengthen immunity. Pure honey helps to normalize the acidity of gastric juice and improve digestion. Honey has a positive effect on the nervous system and helps to improve the quality of sleep. So for those reasons you should try to include honey in your diet.

  • Honey extraction process

So how is this product made? The first step is collecting nectar, a delicious floral juice, which is the raw material for honey. Bees collect nectar from local fruit trees, brambles, dandelion, clover and lime trees. The worker bee brings the nectar from the flower to the hive.
They then turn the nectar into honey by drying it out using a warm breeze made by their wings. Once the honey is ready it's stored in the honeycomb. Then the beekeeper collects frames with capped honey and moves them to the specially equipped extraction room. Uncapping frames and placing them in the honey extractor. Spinning frames at the high speed to remove the honey from the honeycomb. After that honey is filtered through the sieve from the large chunks of wax and it is ready to go in the jar.

  • Types of honey

All honey has a sweet taste, but several key factors make each type of honey unique, such as colour and flavour profile. Depending on the kind of flower from which the nectar was extracted, the taste, colour and aroma of the honey will vary.

    How is honey classified?
    1. Depending on its origin.
    • Uniflorals or monofloral: Honey in which the nectar of a single flower predominates.
    • Multifloral or polyfloral: Honey whose nectar comes from different flowers. The colour of these honey varies depending on the different varieties of flowers from which its nectar comes, as well as the proportion of each one of them
    2. Texture difference
    • Runny honey - that is in a liquid state. It is the most common of all and therefore the easiest to find.
    • Crystallized honey - it is the one that has undergone a solidification process. This can be due to different factors, such as temperature or humidity.
    • Soft set honey - a variety of honey that has a creamy texture and is easy to spread.
    3. Diferance in colour
    • Honey harvested in spring represents light, clear colours: Spring Honey , Clover Honey
    • Honey harvested in summer has a cheery yellow colour with fruity flavours: Summer Honey, Multi flower, Brambles
    • Honey harvested in autumn tends to be darker and sharper in taste: Heather Honey

  • What is raw honey?

Raw honey is honey as it is in the beehive. Raw honey is made by extracting honey from the honeycombs and separating it from impurities. The beekeeper will usually just filter the honey to remove small bits of debris, including pollen, beeswax, and parts of dead bees.
It doesn't contain any hidden sugars and is not pasteurized or processed.
